DRIVING TRAINING AND LESSONS

Our experienced, patient and professional driving instructors teach an array of safe & defensive driver training techniques in every lesson to ensure that you feel confident behind the wheel. Whether you are an experienced driver, a new driver, or you are preparing for the Alberta Class 5 Road Test, we have a training program that can benefit and meet your needs at a fair and competitive price.

The approved driver education guidelines are 15 hours of knowledge training and 10 hours of in-vehicle training. This provides students with a behind-the-wheel experience. If required, we offer additional in-vehicle driver training hours at a reasonable price.

Cost $580.00

The online program consists of 15 hours of knowledge training and 10 hours of in-vehicle instruction administered in 5 sessions (2 hours per day). The online course will be sent to students by email (please check email/junk mail for the online course approximately 1 – 3 hours after you register and make payment). Upon completion of the course requirements, the student will receive a Certificate of Completion for lower insurance rates.

We are approved & licensed by Alberta Transportation and Bonded.
All courses include GST.
We offer convenient online class 5 knowledge training
We offer free pick-up and drop off for all in-vehicle lessons from your school, home or work. (Some restrictions apply)
Course completion certificate provided at the end of the course for insurance reduction. Students must receive a passing mark of 75% or higher for in-vehicle combined with 80% or higher for in-class to qualify for the insurance reduction certificate.

Our service area is the City of Calgary.
All in-vehicle driving lessons are scheduled over 5 sessions (2 hours per day).

CANCELLATION & REFUNDS

All requests for a refund or transfer to another date must be received via email at least 1 week (7 days) before the start of the course and are subject to a $55 administration fee.
No refund if student cancels 7 days prior to class start or if the student fails to attend course.

Course changes are not allowed less than 7 days from the start of the course.
Wheels Training Centre retains the right to cancel or reschedule any courses as required. Full refund will be provided.

I had a wonderful experience with Wheels Training Centre driver's education. I took the road only course, designed for people with their class 5 who need to refresh their skills. Prior to the course, I was comfortable enough driving in towns and small cities, but not comfortable driving in Calgary. I used this course as a sort of headstart to get me comfortable driving in the city. The price point of driver's education from Wheels Training is also on the lower end of the price range when compared to all the other driving schools in Calgary. What I didn't know is that the standard 3-4+ driving courses offered at the different driving schools in Alberta are all the exact same standard curriculums. My instructor was Garry, the owner of Wheels. He is a great driving instructor, clearly has years of experience, and I he also used to be a road test examiner. Garry also provided clear, easy to understand instructions and was enjoyable to do lessons with. Being in a vehicle with someone for 2 hours if you're a new or nervous driver isn't always the most fun experience, but Garry did a great job of making me feel at ease and made the lessons helpful and informative. I took the new driver's education from AMA when I was 20 or so, and I can't say the two instructors I had lessons with were as enjoyable to work with in comparison to Garry. (The AMA instructors were fine, but I left some lessons overwhelmed and frustrated.) The lessons, at least with Garry, were available 7 days a week and at a wide range of morning, afternoon and evening hours. They also pick you up at your home and they let me change a lesson date with enough notice. The vehicle I used to practice on was a compact SUV. Driving something different than a car was something I wanted, so that was great as well. I would 100% recommend Garry and his team at Wheels Training Centre for their quality drivers education and excellent price point. So glad I did my basic motorcycle course with Wheels! Gary (owner and instructor) is an established rider, with a wealth of experience under his belt. He's been riding for over 3 decades and will share numerous tales of real-life bike experience. He teaches you the basic safety of being out on the road and how to protect yourself and other riders. I really want to ride with my dad as my dad is getting older and after contracting a few schools, Garry called me and convinced me that Wheels Training Centre was the school for me. He wasn't wrong, I enjoyed both days, the class is somewhat intensive as in you get a lot of riding in. The staff is great and willing to help quickly. I got enough experience and confidence to take out my VTR1000F for the first time and I did, around 200kms in a day. I was comfortable that I could do it and I had fun. Great experience. The course is run by a couple of older, very experienced riders who are well trained and know what they are talking about. They have a wide variety of bikes for people to use so you can a good sense of what style bike you enjoy. They also cover a lot of what is on a road test. Course: Basic Motorcycle Safety Course Crucial course taught by people who have a combined riding experience almost quadruple than how long I am presently alive. Able to coach professionally and in a personal manner despite being in a group setting. Experiences and stories, both the good and the bad, behind all the skills and portions of the course they teach. The instructors are able to inspire confidence with ease. I recommend taking the weeknight course which is split into three sections. Being able to sleep on the skills and lessons made a big difference in being able to participate in the final group ride. I competed the Basic Motorcycle Training course on the weekend and had the time of my life! Allan and Tim were a great team of instructors. They quickly broke the ice and got us on the bikes very quickly. They gave us a good overview of the bikes‘ systems, spotlighting the importance of careful maintenance to ensure safety. I found it really helpful to be able to swap bikes with other riders to gain confidence and experience. Once we were all comfortable with the basics (starting on a hill, emergency stopping, cornering, etc.) we had a blast riding around as a group. My favourite part by far was touring around on the streets, gaining experience and confidence. I am so thankful to Tim and Allen for their careful instruction, attention to detail, and humour! I just spent two days with three amazing instructors and 8 fabulous women doing the WOMENS ONLY Basic motorcycle course. Many of us went from never riding a bike or only being tail fluff to riding as a pose of awesome biker chicks on the ROAD. Not only were the instructors knowledgeable but they were approachable and willing to answer ANY question and calm any nerve. The course was full with information with tons of time to practise skills, talk through scenarios and laugh at the hilarious "biker vocabulary." I recently completed the basic motorcycle course offered at Wheels and I am glad I did! Great instructors one of which is the owner of the company, he is extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer any and all questions we had for him. Safety is #1 here and they give you all of the tools needed to hit the roads and complete your class 6 examination. I had never previously been on a motorcycle but at the end of the course I comfortably and confidently am able to ride using the techniques taught to me during the course. If you're considering taking a safety course I would highly recommend Wheels Training Center. The course is intuitive and well planned out to gain the confidence and knowledge for riding. Gary, Alan, and Ron were the guys who did the basic course for the group. It was fun and a lot was learned from them. They are very professional, very thorough, and very honest with their evaluation on the aspiring riders. I definitely didn't waste my money picking this school for my learning. My instructor was Gary (the owner) amazingly chill guy. Love his saying they stick in your head so you become a safer rider on the road. It was my first time near a motorcycle, by the end I was confidently riding at 70km/h no problem. I was also concerned about different bike styles thanks to Gary's wide variety of selection I got to try out different kinds of styles. Since I'm a teenager I fell in love with the CBR250R race bike. Gary also allows students to learn at their own pace which I loved so i'm not being held back or pushed forward with other riders. 10/10 had a great experience, would 10/10 recommend it. Only complaint is, I wish it was longer so I can enjoy more time with Gary, bikes and the other riders. After the third class it felt like friends getting together for a ride while learning some stuff along the way.read more

Of all the ways you can spend $500 on over a weekend, per dollar the Basic Rider Course offers one of the most rewarding and fun learning experiences. The Basic Rider Course's pacing and curriculum is perfect for people who have never sat on a street bike. Garry, the school owner and my instructor, was an outstanding instructor that genuinely cares about people and riding. Everyone in my group was different in both level of skill and personality and I observed and experienced how he effectively tailored his teaching and coaching style to each individual student. In 2 days he was able to get me, someone who's never been on a motorcycle, to safely and competently ride on public roads with cars, semis and pedestrians. Garry was able to make a daunting and steep learning curve very safe, manageable and fun! Truly a five star experience, Wheels Training centre not only offers what seems to be the most comprehensive instruction, but also the best instructors available in Garry McConnell and his associates. Going through the basic motorcycle course, having never ridden a bike before, I saw myself making tangible progress with each session. By the end of the course I was comfortably enjoying riding on the open road. From the beginning of the course, safety was the utmost priority and the school really made an effort to ensure that I and my fellow classmates were shaped into safe and knowledgeable riders. In a 3 hour presentation we were given more than enough to ace the Alberta class 6 knowledge test, and through the on bike training I believe we were over prepared in the best of ways for our road test. Garry took time to make sure that every member of the group improved on their individual shortcomings and would be road-ready upon leaving Wheels Training Centre. In addition, him and his staff happily answered all of my questions via phone call or email comprehensively and in a timely manner. In essence, Wheels Training Centre failed only in the ability to present a single flaw or shortcoming to me; from the extremely competitive price of the courses, to interacting with the instructors and a graduate of the basic course. Hats off to instructors Garry (owner) and Rick at Wheels Training Centre! I had been thinking of taking a motorcycle driving course for quite some time and there are many to choose from. I decided on Wheels because of their high google reviews and also because the course is only one weekend long, instead of two. I am female and they also offer female only courses. I didn’t do that course because I wanted to take the course sooner rather than later. I was the only female in a group of 9, plus 2 male instructors. I fit right in and felt very welcome. I wasn’t made to feel any different because i am a “girl”. Both instructors were very professional and very concerned about each students safety at ALL times. I was having trouble with the clutch almost all weekend, each time I brought this up to either instructor, they offered a solution or asked what they could do to help me correct my problem. I know everyone wants to get on the bike and “ride”, but you need the proper tools and education to do so.... and I strongly believe you will get the tools you need with this course. I feel very confident on a motorcycle now and can’t wait to get on my own. Sorry for such a long post... but wanted to get it all out lol. And remember “safety first”!!! Happy riding.read more

You get a wealth of knowledge and experience from Gary, Al and Rick. You can tell they really live the riding lifestyle and enjoy teaching others. I had never been on a motorcycle and after the basic course I am confident I can pass the road test. One day is a few hours of theory, one day going over controls/inspection before riding and learning slow speed manuevers. The 3rd day included review, small group rides on the road and additional riding techniques. Its incredibly fun and I cant imagine trying to ride a bike without having proper training. The drills started from very basic (pushing a bike around), to avoidance techniques (quick decision swerving). The groups are not to big that you get lost in the mix. If I have to describe my experience with Wheels Training Centre in a few words, it'd be "They are the best!". I recently moved to Calgary from Edmonton. Although I had already 3 years of driving experience in Canada, I wanted to refresh myself and get ready before I started my job that requires driving throughout the city. Plus, I wanted to get rid of GDL from my license. I called 4 other schools, and all were very pricey. Since I got my first license in the States 7 years ago, I thought I should take some in-class lessons. I explained my situation over the phone to Gary, the owner, and he said I should be fine with only driving lessons. Gary has years of experience, and he is very thoughtful! You could see that he's not after your money but simply want you to be a good driver. He even came to my road test as my cheerleader! I passed the test and I'm officially a good class 5 driver!! The instructors and staff at Wheels Training Centre are fantastic. They are easy to talk to, and they teach in a manner that makes it easy to understand and easy to apply the riding principles to the hands on portion of the course. The slow speed maneuvers, balancing, braking and swerving exercises are the key to successful riding in a crowded parking lot and on the open road. Safety is their main concern throughout the duration of the course. The cost of the course, which comes in less than most other courses I found, is well worth course fee.
